Why should I register?

Damn good question. I'm glad you asked it.

Registration on this site is free (and there are no plans to charge - EVER). The point of registering is to allow you to customise certain pages to your specific needs. See, as the game developed, certain information is more useful to some players than others. As an example, take mages. Mages probably don't care what the DEF and AC is on any given creature. They're more interested in HP and ATK.

By creating an account, you can tell the BoW what you want to see and what you don't want to see. The BoW will remember. This happens on the site and not by using cookies - so you won't have to reset them every time you delete your cookies.

You can also create alts. Many players have more than one character. Once you're registered, you can create alts who each have their own preferences. You can then easily switch between your characters and see what's relevant to them.

FAQs

Ok, so at the time of writing, nobody even knows about this so there haven't been any questions let alone frequently asked ones. So I'm going to guess what they'll be.

I can't log in

  1. I forgot my password. Now what?
If you can't remember your password, you can have the system email your password to you.
  2. I made up an email address when I registered and now can't remember my password. What do I do?
Well, that was stupid wasn't it? Your only course of action now is to send Jinxeth a PM via the Gothador forums. It must be via the Gothador forums in order to validate you are really the player you're claiming to be. If your login here does not match your Gothador name, your password will not be reset or resent to you. That's why, when registering with the site, you should use your Gothador name.
  3. My Login name has been stolen!!
If you try to register and find someone else has already registered using your Gothador name, then send Jinxeth a PM via the Gothador forums. This will validate you as the real owner of the name and Jinxeth with fix it for you.

Email Addresses

People always stress about handing over email addresses and with good reason. Here, however, your email address is private.

  1. Why do you want my email address?
Your email address is used for password retrieval primarily. If you forget your password, the site can email it to you.
  2. Ok, but what do you mean "primarily"?
Again, nothing sinister. Eventually, we may send out newsletters. They will be few and far between and basically alert you to any potential down time on the site, new features - that sort of thing. We also hope to allow users to subscribe (for free) to site updates. For example, you may choose to subscribe (for free - did I say that already?) to quest updates. This will mean that each time a quest is added or updated, you will get an email telling you the new information. That's right! The BoW in your inbox!
  3. But what if I don't want emails from you?
Simple. In your general preferences you can opt out. And you will never get a mail from us again. Unless you opt back in. Its entirely in your control.
  4. Ok, but how do I know you aren't selling our email addresses?
Awwww, come on. You know us. Would we do a thing like that? Of course not. We hate spam as much as you do so we will never, ever, ever pass your email on to a 3rd party for any reason (apart from a court order of course). Ok, you only have our word for that but if you're still not convinced, the BoW is hosted in the UK where they have this little thing called the Data Protection Act. The short version is that it is illegal for us to use any data for any reason other than for the purpose it was collected. Which means...if we do spam you or sell you're email we're breaking the law and you can sue us for every penny (about 37 pence at the last count.)
  5. That's all well and good but do you have a privacy policy?
Yes. Yes we do. And you can find it here.

General Stuff

  1. How many alts can I have?
    5. You can have your main character and 5 alts so 6 characters altogether.
  2. Why only 5 alts?
If you have more than 6 characters you need to put the mouse down and step away from the keyboard. In our humble opinion anyway.
  3. What information do you log?
The web server logs general web stats which count hits and stuff. Nothing to connect you to your registered account. We also log when you first registered and when you last logged in. This is so we can purge inactive accounts so they don't bloat the database. We also log your IP. Partly out of curiosity but mostly so we, if neccesary, can implement an IP banning system. This would only happen in the case of someone abusing the system. That's unlikely right now but there are some interesting ideas floating around which might open the possibility of some users being a bloody pain. Sorry to be vague right now but they're just ideas at this point. The IP logging is purely to defend the site. We also log site searches. This is purely to highlilght what isn't obvious and what stuff isn't properly connected in the BoW. It also helps us get an idea of how people are using the site so that we can improve it. Searches are logged against a session ID which is in no way connected with you or your user account.
  4. Ok, so who has access to this information you log?
The BoW Team can view searches and also see how many people logged into the site the previous day but not who they were. As mentioned above, this is purely to help us correct errors and improve the site and the information is not connected specific user accounts. BoW Administrators can also access user accounts in order to reset passwords and apply personal greetings. They can not, however, see anyone's email address. Jinxeth can access everything but he won't be sharing it with anyone. Anything in the database is between the database and Jinxeth and it will always stay that way.
  5. Do you ever intend to charge for access to this site?
No. Although it would be easy enough to set up its just not worth the effort. The BoW is not the only source of information, its just the most usable source. Besides, one person would sign up and hand over their username and password the rest of their cult. We could restrict access but that would mean people would only be able to access the site from the machine they registered from. Or we'd have to have access packages where you get like 500 page views for X amount of cash... *sigh* You see? It all gets very complicated and I really couldn't be arsed to code it all in. I'd rather just have another ciggy and open some wine. Besides, I don't honestly think people would pay for access anyway. Its not that we haven't thought about it, its just that we don't really want to charge (its never what we were about) and I personally don't think it would work anyway. So I just foot the bills with a drunken smile.
  6. Why the hell do you go to all this effort?
I have no idea. I probably need to get out more :)
  7. This site rocks. Can I help in some way?
Well, you can help by giving us money to keep it going. You can also help by providing us with information that is missing or incorrect.

Hopefully that covers everything. If not, post on our forum. If you're happy, then register and enjoy the extra features.
